Pat Cummins Reveals His Favorites in Fun Q&A Session

Pat Cummins Reveals His Favorites in Fun Q&A Session

Australian skipper Pat Cummins, who also leads Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), recently engaged in a fun Q&A session with his fans on Instagram. The session revealed some of Cummins’s favorites, both on and off the field.

When asked about his favorite memory in India, Cummins shared a photo of the Australian team celebrating their victory in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, which they won by defeating India in the final. The match was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Cummins also revealed that his favorite SRH teammate is Travis Head, who has played crucial knocks for Australia in big matches, including the ICC World Test Championship final and the ICC Cricket World Cup final against India last year.

Regarding his favorite Indian food, Cummins expressed his love for Pav Bhaji, a popular street food snack.

In a humorous response to a fan’s question about increasing his height, Cummins quipped, “Ask Marco,” referring to South African pacer Marco Jansen, who stands at an impressive six foot nine inches tall.

Cummins’s SRH team is currently in fifth place in the IPL 2024 standings with three wins and two losses. They will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their next match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. RCB, on the other hand, is struggling at the bottom of the table with only one win and five losses.

SRH has impressed with their attacking cricket, particularly in batting. Cummins has also shown his leadership skills, picking up six wickets in five matches at an average of 24.33.

Abhishek Sharma's Record-Breaking Knock Revives SRH's Hopes

Abhishek Sharma’s Record-Breaking Knock Revives SRH’s Hopes

Abhishek Sharma’s blistering knock against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday night has reignited hopes for Sunrisers Hyderabad. The 23-year-old left-hander smashed the fastest fifty for SRH, a 16-ball masterpiece that earned him the player of the match award.

Sharma’s performance is a testament to SRH’s persistence with domestic talent. Despite inconsistent returns since joining the franchise in 2019, the team has remained steadfast in their support for Sharma, along with other promising players like Abdul Samad, Rahul Tripathi, and Mayank Markande.

This season, Sharma’s improved form is evident. He was the second-highest scorer for Punjab in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20, amassing 485 runs with a strike rate of 192. His two centuries and three fifties in 10 outings showcased his potential.

Batting at No. 3 instead of opening has seemingly benefited Sharma, allowing him to thrive alongside Travis Head. “The domestic season gives us a lot of confidence,” Sharma said. “I enjoyed batting with Head. He’s one of my favorite batters. He told me to go for it if it was in my zone.”

Sharma’s confidence was further boosted by a conversation with Brian Lara, SRH’s former batting coach and head coach. Despite Sharma’s ordinary performances in previous seasons, Lara consistently praised his abilities.

In 2022, Sharma scored 426 runs in 14 matches at an average of 30.43 and a strike rate of 133. In 2023, he batted down the order and made 226 runs in 11 matches.

“I had a chance to talk to Brian Lara last night and that helped me massively,” Sharma revealed. “He told me to back myself and play my natural game.”

Sharma’s performance against Mumbai Indians is a sign of things to come for SRH. With his newfound confidence and improved form, he is poised to play a pivotal role in the team’s success this season.

Mitchell Starc's Underwhelming Performance Raises Concerns for Kolkata Knight Riders

Mitchell Starc’s Underwhelming Performance Raises Concerns for Kolkata Knight Riders

Mitchell Starc’s underwhelming performance in Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) nail-biting 4-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has raised concerns despite the team’s triumph.

Starc, who was acquired for a staggering Rs 24.75 crore in the IPL 2024 auction, failed to live up to expectations in his much-anticipated return to the KKR lineup. The Australian speedster struggled against SRH batters throughout his spell, leaking 53 runs in his four-over quota.

Despite maintaining a pace above 140kmph, Starc’s economy rate of 13.20 and six wide deliveries highlighted his struggles. Tasked with leading the bowling attack while defending a formidable target of 209, Starc’s performance was inconsistent.

While he started by conceding 12 runs in his first over, he failed to maintain control, conceding 10 runs in the second. Although he bounced back with an impressive 16th over, conceding only 5 runs, his costly 19th over, where he gave away 26 runs, allowed SRH to mount a significant comeback.

Starc’s lackluster display has left Kolkata fans questioning his ability to justify his hefty price tag. Signed for a record-breaking amount, his performance against SRH has raised doubts about his potential impact for KKR this season.

With the spotlight firmly on him, Starc will be under pressure to rediscover his form and make a meaningful contribution to Kolkata Knight Riders’ campaign in the remainder of the IPL season.

Ashwin Surprised by SRH's Cummins Captaincy Appointment

Ashwin Surprised by SRH’s Cummins Captaincy Appointment

Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s off-spinner, has expressed surprise over SunRisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) decision to appoint Pat Cummins as captain. SRH had previously sacked Aiden Markram, who led their sister franchise, SunRisers Eastern Cape (SEC), to consecutive SA20 league titles.

Ashwin stated that he was shocked by the move, especially considering Markram’s success with SEC. He suggested that SRH could have benefited from Markram’s experience and leadership skills.

“SunRisers have hit two titles back to back at the SA20. They’ve done it with two extraordinary teams. I was quite shocked, actually. They have made Pat Cummins the captain. I was having a small hunch that they would go with Markram. Markram had an extraordinary season for his franchise in the SA20. The cross-pollination would have been amazing,” Ashwin said.

While acknowledging Cummins’ credentials as a world-class player, Ashwin raised concerns about the potential for a “problem of plenty” in SRH’s leadership department. He suggested that the franchise could struggle to accommodate the leadership aspirations of multiple star players.

“Pat Cummins is a no-brainer. But with Cummins as a captain, they will have a problem of plenty in the team with so many stars. Keeping Travis Head as backup, they would go for Markram, Pat Cummins, (Heinrich) Klaasen, and (Wanindu) Hasaranga. Because Hasaranga is a crucial facet for them. If they decide Hasaranga is not needed, in some venues they can play (Fazalhaq) Farooqi or Marco Jansen instead of him. This is what I thought because it makes sense,” he added.

Cummins, who has never captained a team in T20 cricket, expressed his excitement about leading SRH in IPL 2024. He emphasized the importance of an aggressive start to the season and praised the team’s young talent.

“So, a bit of planning to go and then just wanna get off to a really good start. T20s are hard. Kolkata’s a good team, but I think just wanna see a really aggressive, start to the season,” Cummins said.

SRH will begin their IPL 2024 campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens.

KKR vs SRH: Shreyas Iyer Returns, Starc and Cummins Clash in IPL Opener

KKR vs SRH: Shreyas Iyer Returns, Starc and Cummins Clash in IPL Opener

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will kick off the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season on March 23 in Kolkata. The match will feature the return of Shreyas Iyer, who missed the entire 2022 season due to a back injury. Iyer will lead KKR, who have made some tactical additions while keeping the nucleus of the side intact.

KKR’s most successful captain, Gautam Gambhir, is back as a mentor. His partnership with head coach Chandrakant Pandit, a shrewd tactician in the domestic circuit, will be key to their revival. The team’s biggest signing is Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, who will be under huge pressure to perform. His spell in power-play and the death overs will be crucial.

SRH, under the leadership of Australian captain Pat Cummins, will also be looking to make a strong start. Cummins is the second-most expensive buy in this IPL and all eyes will be on him to revive the fortunes of the side that has had two wooden-spoon finishes in the last three seasons.

On paper, KKR with a star-studded batting and spin-heavy attack to complement Starc’s pace, will be overwhelming favorites. But SRH, under the shrewd captaincy of Cummins, will definitely fancy their chances. Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen’s batting firepower in the power-play and death overs will be vital. Their bowling also looks balanced with the experienced Cummins and India’s veteran death-overs specialist Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the lineup, while the likes of Washington Sundar and Wanindu Hasaranga will be crucial in the spin department.

Dale Steyn Steps Down as SRH Bowling Coach, Pat Cummins Eyed as Captain

Dale Steyn Steps Down as SRH Bowling Coach, Pat Cummins Eyed as Captain

Former South African pace legend Dale Steyn will not be part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) coaching staff for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Steyn has requested a break from his coaching responsibilities, prompting the franchise to search for a replacement bowling coach.

Steyn’s departure comes after a successful stint with SRH, where he played a pivotal role in the development of young speedster Umran Malik. Malik has since earned an India cap in T20Is and ODIs, and recently received a fast-bowling contract from the BCCI.

Despite his absence, Steyn is expected to return to the franchise next season if all necessary arrangements are met. SRH has already appointed former New Zealand left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori as their new head coach.

The franchise is also considering appointing Pat Cummins as their captain for the upcoming season. Cummins, who was acquired for a whopping INR 20.5 crore in the auction last year, has led Australia to victory in the 2023 World Test Championship and Men’s ODI World Cup.

SRH, who finished at the bottom of the points table last year, will be hoping for a turnaround under Vettori and Cummins’ leadership. They will open their 2024 campaign on March 23 against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, followed by their first home match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on March 27 against Mumbai Indians.

IPL 2023: The list of expected players to be released from every franchisee

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is getting tougher with each year passing by. With the introduction of two new teams: the Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, winning the prestigious trophy has become more strenuous. A side must have the perfect blend of batters, bowlers, and all-rounders to win the best T20 league in the world.

There is no denying the fact that the auction is the cornerstone of winning the illustrious IPL trophy. The decision-makers of every franchise need to be thorough with their teams’ necessities before entering the bidding battle in the auction. Having said that, as important as it is for a team to sign a perfect player, at the same time, it is very crucial for them to get rid of some of them.

Releasing a player before an auction is also a very important step before entering a new season. An out-of-form player with a heavy price tag is enough to drag a whole team back single-handedly. All ten teams will look for some adjustments in their squad before the upcoming season.

The IPL 2023 auction is set to be held in December. The official date is yet to be announced by the BCCI. However, all the teams are required to submit the list of their retained and released players by November 15.

Let’s have a look at the list of expected players to be released from every franchisee in IPL 2023:

Mumbai Indians

“Humiliating” will be an understatement to describe Mumbai Indians’ performance in the IPL 2022. The five-time IPL winners won just four games out of the 14 played in the recently conducted season. What makes it worse is that most of the games were played in Wankhede Stadium, the team’s home ground itself. The MI management has some serious thinking to do and needs to get back on track before it gets too late.

Players Mumbai Indians can release before the 2023 auction:

1) Jaydev Unadkat

2) Fabian Allen

3) Tymal Mills

Chennai Super Kings

If Mumbai Indians had a bad season, Chennai Super Kings had a disappointing one as well. CSK looked completely lost in IPL 2022. The MS Dhoni/ Ravindra Jadeja-led side finished 9th a season after winning the IPL. The out-of-favours CSK side also won just four games in IPL 2022.

The Men in Yellow are expected to bounce back in the upcoming season as it can be the last time MS Dhoni’s last season as a player. CSK will need a perfect team to make MSD’s last dance a special one.

Players Chennai Super Kings can release before the 2023 auction:

1) Chris Jordan

2) Adam Milne

3) Robin Uthappa

Sunrisers Hyderabad

SRH kick-started their IPL 2022 with back-to-back losses. However, the team managed to gain momentum by winning five games straight. The Orange Army then looked to lose the plot by going on a 5-game losing streak and eventually finished 8th in the IPL 2022 points table.

Umran Malik’s outrageous bowling carried the team for most of the season. Other than that, it was just an average performance from the rest of the squad, including their skipper Kane Williamson. Fans are still not over the fact that SRH failed to retain David Warner and Rashid Khan in the same window.

Players Sunrisers Hyderabad can release before the 2023 auction:

1) Sean Abbott

2) Fazalhaq Farooqi

3) Abdul Samad

4) Romario Shepherd

Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders experienced a bright start to their IPL 2022 campaign but failed to thrive on it. KKR have a good squad with a promising young skipper in the form of Shreyas Iyer. And with Chandrakant Pandit’s arrival at the coaching helm, we can expect plenty of changes in the KKR’s squad this season. KKR fans were seemingly unhappy with their team’s strategy in the 2022 mega-auction. However, we might see a positive turnout this time.

Players Kolkata Knight Riders can release before the 2023 auction:

1) Ajinkya Rahane

2) Aaron Finch

3) Shivam Mavi

Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings let go of KL Rahul and appointed Mayank Agarwal as their new captain before the IPL 2022 season. However, the alternations didn’t make much difference for PBKS as it proved to be yet another disheartening season for them. PBKS finished 6th for the 3rd consecutive time under the management of head coach Anil Kumble.

PBKS has a lot of promising players in their squad, with some big names including Liam Livingstone, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Jonny Bairstow, Arshdeep Singh, and Kagiso Rabada. To think of a team consisting of so many big names ending up with just 7 wins in a season is rather dissatisfying.

Punjab Kings can easily fight for the title in IPL 2023. PBKS will look to offload some deadwood from their squad before the mini-auction takes place. PBKS’ new head coach Trevor Bayliss is expected to bring in some major changes in their team ahead of the IPL 2023 season. Shikhar Dhawan has already been named their new skipper to start with.

Players Punjab Kings can release before the 2023 auction:

1) Mayank Agarwal

2) Sandeep Sharma

3) Benny Howell

4) Odean Smith

5) Vaibhav Arora

Delhi Capitals

Almost every year, Delhi Capitals start as one of the front-runners to win the IPL but ironically fails to turn their long-lasting dream into a reality. Delhi Capital’s star-studded squad, which included the likes of Rishabh Pant, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and Prithvi Shaw, was expected to crush most of their challengers.

However, DC finished 5th in the IPL 2022, which perfectly sums up the team’s journey in the Indian T20 tournament. The Rishabh Pant-led team has got all the ingredients to win the IPL. With a little switch, the Delhi Capitals can fix their problems ahead of the 2023 IPL.

Players Delhi Capitals can release before the 2023 auction:

1) Shardul Thakur

2) Mandeep Singh

3) Tim Seifert

4) Mustafizur Rahman

5) Ripal Patel

Royal Challengers Bangalore

To think that the great Virat Kohli has never won an IPL will always be an astonishing fact. A team that consisted the likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Chris Gayle, all at the same time and still never bagged an IPL trophy is a disturbing fact. In an ideal world, Royal Challengers Bangalore should have clinched at least 1 IPL title. However, IPL can not be won by facts but by performances that RCB somewhere lacks in every season.

RCB managed to amass a great squad in the 2022 mega auction but failed to change their fortunes. We are expecting some minor changes in the RCB’s squad ahead of the 2023 IPL mini-auction.

Players Royal Challengers Bangalore can release before the 2023 auction:

1) Sherfane Rutherford

2) Jason Behrendorff

3) Karn Sharma

4) David Willey

Lucknow Super Giants

The newly-formed side under the leadership of KL Rahul did pretty well in their maiden season. LSG finished 3rd as they gathered a total of 9 wins in IPL 2022. The Lucknow-based franchise will be motivated by its set of great stints in its very first season and will only look to thrive from it.

Players Lucknow Super Giants can release before the 2023 auction:

1) Manish Pandey

2) Andrew Tye

3) Evin Lewis

4) Ankit Rajpoot

Rajasthan Royals

Many would argue that Rajasthan Royals were indeed the best side of IPL 2022. RR looked like the most balanced team out of the 10 in the previous season. The Rajasthan-based team dominated most of their rivals, with Jos Buttler leading the batting from the front.

Sanju Samson and his “pink army” reached the IPL 2022 finals but couldn’t taste the glory. However, RR will surely be one of the favourites to win the next IPL. Rajasthan Royals won’t be eager to implement many changes in their almost perfect squad.

Players Rajasthan Royals can release before the 2023 auction:

1) Nathan Coulter-Nile

2) Karun Nair

3) Obed McCoy

4) Rassie van der Dussen

Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans created history by winning the IPL in their very first season. The Hardik Pandya-led team displayed great courage against some of the best players in the world. Gujarat Titans had a different match-winner in each victory of theirs. GT’s immense individual quality was their X-factor in IPL 2022. Gujarat Titans will want to maintain a similar approach for the seasons to follow as well. We are not expecting any big changes in Gujarat’s squad for the upcoming season.

Players Gujarat Titans can release before the 2023 auction:

1) Vijay Shankar

2) Gurkeerat Singh Mann

3) Noor Ahmad

4) Varun Aaron
