Nepal’s Dipendra Singh Airee Smashes Six Sixes in an Over, Joins Elite Club

Dipendra Singh Airee, Nepal’s explosive batsman, has etched his name in the annals of cricket history by becoming only the third player to smash six consecutive sixes in an over in an international T20 match. The remarkable feat was achieved against Qatar in the ACC Men’s Premier Cup match in Al Amerat on Saturday.

Airee, who entered the final over with 28 runs off 15 deliveries, unleashed a barrage of sixes off each of medium pacer Kamran Khan’s deliveries. The 24-year-old finished with an astonishing 64 runs off just 21 balls, propelling Nepal to a formidable total of 210 for 7.

Airee’s extraordinary achievement places him alongside legendary cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Kieron Pollard, who have also accomplished the rare feat in international T20s. In ODI cricket, Herschelle Gibbs and Jaskaran Malhotra have achieved the same milestone.

Notably, Airee is no stranger to such heroics. In September 2023, during the Asian Games in Hangzhou, he had achieved a similar feat against Mongolia. However, on that occasion, his six consecutive sixes were spread across two overs.

Airee’s six-hitting prowess has been a key factor in Nepal’s recent success in T20 cricket. The right-handed batsman has played 60 T20Is and 55 ODIs for his country, showcasing his ability to clear the boundary with ease.

Airee’s record-breaking performance against Qatar is a testament to his exceptional talent and the growing strength of Nepal’s cricket team. The young batsman’s ability to produce such extraordinary feats on the international stage bodes well for the future of cricket in Nepal.

Rajasthan Royals Seek Redemption Against Inconsistent Punjab Kings

Rajasthan Royals Seek Redemption Against Inconsistent Punjab Kings

A disappointing Rajasthan Royals will face a highly inconsistent yet capable Punjab Kings in their Indian Premier League match on April 13. The Royals had an excellent chance to register their fifth win on the trot and consolidate their totem pole position, but Rashid Khan’s daring assault helped Gujarat Titans snatch a last-ball victory on Wednesday.

The Royals lost to the Titans because of the below-par effort from Kuldip Sen (19th over) and Avesh Khan (20th over) at a vital passage, when they conceded 35 runs across 12 balls. Here, the Royals made a slight tactical error by not letting Trent Boult complete his quota in that match as the veteran left-arm pacer ended the match at 2-0-8-0.

The Shikhar Dhawan-captained Punjab side has blown hot and cold so far in the tournament, winning two and losing three out of five matches. The primary reason for their middling run this year is the patchy form of their fancied batsmen as Punjab relied on cameos by uncapped Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma to boost their batting.

Opener Jonny Bairstow (5 matches, 81 runs) and middle-order batter Jitesh Sharma (5 matches, 77 runs) are the most underwhelming of the lot, and it has robbed them of momentum upfront and in the business end of their innings. Sam Curran has been above average with the ball, taking six wickets from five matches but the England all-rounder’s needle has fallen behind from the halfway mark with the bat, despite scoring a 63.

The absence of injured Liam Livingstone from the middle-order too has reduced their firepower, and Kings will hope to have the Englishman back in their ranks at the earliest. On the contrary, the Punjab bowlers have done marginally better, but their propensity to concede big runs while bowling first will be a concern. A group consisting of bowlers such as Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh has given away 199, 199 and 182 runs in their last three matches and they will have to break the pattern against the Royals.

It’s easier said than done as the Royals’ batting unit has been in good shape as 185 is the lowest total it posted while batting first. Outside the match calculations, the Royals will have another bigger worry to nullify. Over the last few editions of the IPL, the Royals had begun strongly, just as they did this year, before tapering off after the mid-season. As a result, they have managed to qualify for the play-offs only twice across the last six seasons. Royals would dearly hope that the defeat against GT was not the beginning of another meltdown.

Andre Russell: Leaner, Fitter, and Lethal as Ever

Andre Russell: Leaner, Fitter, and Lethal as Ever

Andre Russell: Rediscovering His Mojo with a Leaner, Fitter Approach

As Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) prepare for their upcoming matches, all eyes are on Andre Russell, the towering Jamaican who has been in scintillating form. In their season opener against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Russell smashed a blistering 25-ball 64, showcasing his devastating power-hitting abilities.

Russell’s performance at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru holds special significance. In 2019, he played a pivotal role in KKR’s victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore, scoring an unbeaten 13-ball 48 to guide his team to a five-wicket win.

After a challenging period last year, Russell has returned to the IPL with renewed vigor and determination. He has shed weight, improved his fitness, and sharpened his batting skills.

“I think it’s all about the mindset,” Russell said. “I watched videos of my past performances and realized that I was clear in my thoughts towards every delivery. I allowed myself to be under pressure because I’ve been thinking too much.”

Russell has also been working diligently on his fitness. “I’m feeling good,” he said. “I have four packs so I’m working on the next two. I’m working on being leaner and lighter, and it’s working for my body and shows in my performance as well.”

In addition to his physical improvements, Russell has also made technical adjustments to his batting. “I was at the nets in Abu Dhabi and Sunil Narine mentioned something,” he revealed. “Having a short stride is working for me. When I look at most big-hitters, they don’t have a big stride. Now I have a bit more time to play the ball.”

With the T20 World Cup approaching, Russell is eager to continue his impressive form. His rediscovered mojo and unwavering determination make him a formidable force in the IPL and a key player for the West Indies.

Virat Kohli's Match-Winning Knock Guides RCB to Victory

Virat Kohli’s Match-Winning Knock Guides RCB to Victory

Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli’s childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, hailed the batter’s match-winning performance against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday. Kohli’s batting masterclass, combined with finishing touches from Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror, sealed a four-wicket win for RCB at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Kohli’s 77-run innings was a testament to his class and experience. He registered a unique record during the match, becoming the first Indian and overall only third player to score 100 T20 fifty-plus scores. The 35-year-old was back at his vintage best, scoring 77 runs in 49 balls, with 11 fours and two sixes. He scored his runs at a strike rate of over 157.

In 378 appearances, Kohli has scored 12,092 runs at an average of 41.26, with eight centuries and 92 fifties. His best score is 122*. Virat is India’s leading T20 run getter and overall sixth.

In terms of most fifty-plus scores, above Kohli are West Indies batting great Chris Gayle (110 fifty-plus scores including 22 centuries) and Australian great David Warner (109 fifty-plus scores including eight centuries).

Coming to the match, Punjab Kings (PBKS) saw their batters getting starts but none of them could convert it into something big. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan (45 in 37 balls with five fours and a six), Jitesh Sharma (27 in 20 balls with a four and two sixes), and Sam Curran (23 in 17 balls) played decent knocks, but on a batting-friendly Chinnaswammy track, PBKS could muster only 176/6 in 20 overs.

Mohammed Siraj (2/26) and Glenn Maxwell (2/29) took two scalps each. Yash Dayal and Alzarri Joseph took a wicket each.

In the chase of 177, RCB continued to lose wickets at regular intervals, but Kohli (77 in 49 balls, with 11 fours and two sixes) held the ship steady at the other end. After his dismissal, things got tricky for RCB, but finishing from Dinesh Karthik (28* in 10 balls, with three fours and two sixes) and Mahipal Lomror (17* in eight balls, with two fours and a six) guided the team to a four-wicket win with four balls left.

Harpreet Brar (2/13) and Kagiso Rabada (2/23) were the pick of the bowlers for PBKS.

Kohli was awarded the Player of the Match for his marvelous innings.

Faf du Plessis: The Leg-Spinning Captain of RCB

Faf du Plessis: The Leg-Spinning Captain of RCB

Faf du Plessis: The Unexpected Leg-Spin Wizard

Ahead of their first home match of the IPL season, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) players were stumped by a trivia question: who was the first current RCB player to take two consecutive 5-wicket hauls in T20s?

To everyone’s surprise, the answer was none other than their captain, Faf du Plessis. Back in 2011 and 2012, du Plessis achieved this feat in the South African domestic circuit with his leg-spin skills.

His second five-wicket haul was particularly impressive, as it included wickets of Quinton de Kock, Neil McKenzie, Dwaine Pretorius, Chris Morris, and Thami Tsolekile, all of whom represented South Africa.

Du Plessis’ bowling prowess extends beyond T20s. He has also picked up 2 ODI wickets and has a respectable bowling record across first-class, List A, and T20 cricket. In T20s, he has claimed 50 wickets at an average of 18.34 and an economy rate of 6.96.

Despite his bowling abilities, du Plessis has opted to focus on his batting in recent years. However, his teammates were quick to express their surprise and admiration for his leg-spin skills.

“Who bowls leg-spin? Faf? What!” exclaimed Virat Kohli. “Faf, I never expected you to do that!” added Dinesh Karthik.

As RCB prepares to take on Punjab in their first home game of the season, it remains to be seen whether du Plessis will showcase his bowling talents once again.

RCB vs PBKS: Clash of the Titans in IPL 2024

RCB vs PBKS: Clash of the Titans in IPL 2024

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season is underway, and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are set to face off against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a highly anticipated match. Both teams are coming off contrasting results in their opening matches, with RCB suffering a defeat to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and PBKS securing a thrilling victory over the Delhi Capitals (DC).

RCB, led by Dinesh Karthik, will be eager to bounce back from their disappointing start. Despite a challenging start, RCB’s middle-order batsmen, Anuj Rawat and Karthik, rescued the team from a precarious position of 78 for 5 to 173 for 6. However, their bowling fell short as they struggled with length, allowing the CSK batters to capitalize and secure a 6-wicket victory.

On the other hand, PBKS, led by Mayank Agarwal, began their IPL 2024 campaign with a resounding 4-wicket victory against DC. Arshdeep Singh and Harpreet Brar impressed with the ball, restricting DC to a total of 174 runs. With the bat, Sam Curran’s remarkable innings of 63 runs off 47 balls, supported by Liam Livingstone, guided PBKS to victory.

Looking at the head-to-head record, PBKS have faced off against RCB in 31 matches, securing victory in 17 of them. However, RCB emerged victorious in their last encounter in 2023. PBKS will be confident in their ability to reverse the outcome this year and come out on top.

The match between RCB and PBKS promises to be an exciting contest. RCB will be looking to return to winning ways, while PBKS will aim to maintain their winning streak. Both teams have a wealth of talent and experience, and the outcome of the match could have a significant impact on their respective campaigns in IPL 2024.

Naman Dhir Impresses in IPL Debut for Mumbai Indians

Naman Dhir Impresses in IPL Debut for Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians have a history of fielding iconic T20 batters at the crucial No. 3 position, including Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma, and Cameron Green. However, in a recent match against Gujarat Titans, a relatively unknown name, Naman Dhir, took the stage at No. 3 after Ishan Kishan’s early dismissal.

Dhir, a 24-year-old hard-hitting batter from Punjab, has played only five T20 matches in his professional career and is yet to make his debut in 50-over domestic cricket. Despite his limited experience, he was acquired by Mumbai Indians for INR 20 lakh at the last auction.

Dhir’s selection is a testament to Mumbai Indians’ scouting prowess. He has impressed with his big-hitting abilities, particularly in the Sher-e-Punjab T20 Cup last year, where he amassed 466 runs at a strike rate of 192.56.

In his IPL debut, Dhir showcased his power-hitting skills, smashing three consecutive fours and a six against Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai. He also lofted a six over long-off in the third over. However, Omarzai eventually dismissed Dhir lbw with the help of a review.

Despite Dhir’s impressive start, Mumbai Indians fell short by six runs in the end. However, his performance has raised eyebrows and suggests that he could be a valuable asset to the team in the future.

Virat Kohli's Consistency and Aggression Elevate T20 Teams

Virat Kohli’s Consistency and Aggression Elevate T20 Teams

Virat Kohli’s unwavering consistency and infectious aggression have left an indelible mark on the cricketing world, according to former India captain Anil Kumble. Kohli’s relentless pursuit of excellence has not only elevated his own game but also the intensity of every T20 team he represents.

Kumble, who witnessed Kohli’s rise from a U-19 World Cup winner to a global superstar, believes that consistency is Kohli’s most significant legacy. As the only player to have played 16 seasons for a single IPL franchise, Kohli has consistently delivered match-winning performances for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

“His aggression and attitude on the field help the team gain intensity,” Kumble said. “The kind of inspiration and intensity that he brings lifts everybody within the group.”

England’s World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan echoed Kumble’s sentiments, describing Kohli as one of the greatest cricketers of the modern era. “When you have a player of that calibre in your side, it’s crucial that you’re constantly asking him to get the best out of himself,” Morgan said.

Mike Hesson, who coached Kohli at RCB, provided a different perspective, highlighting Kohli’s calm demeanor off the field. “He’s very calm off the field,” Hesson said. “When youngsters come into the team or overseas players, he’d spend time getting to know them.”

Robin Uthappa, who has played alongside and against Kohli, described the experience of facing him as “annoying.” “As an opposition, he could be grating, in your face,” Uthappa said. “You’d always feel like there’s a battle happening with a bowler.”

Kohli’s combative instincts extend beyond his batting, according to Uthappa. “There’s an extra battle happening with an extra-cover fielder because he’s coming at you all the time,” he added.

As Royal Challengers Bangalore prepare for the upcoming IPL season, Kohli’s leadership and unwavering determination will once again be crucial to their success. His ability to inspire and elevate his teammates makes him an invaluable asset to any team he represents.

Sri Lanka Triumphs in T20 Series Finale, Thushara Shines with Hat Trick

Sri Lanka Triumphs in T20 Series Finale, Thushara Shines with Hat Trick

Sri Lanka’s cricket team secured a thrilling 28-run victory over Bangladesh in the final T20 match of their series, claiming the series 2-1. Opener Kusal Mendis played a pivotal role, scoring a brilliant 86 runs off 55 balls, including six fours and six sixes. His innings propelled Sri Lanka to a competitive total of 174-6.

Bangladesh’s chase got off to a shaky start, with pacer Nuwan Thushara making an immediate impact. Thushara, playing his first game of the series, ripped through the top order, taking four wickets in his two overs, including a hat trick. His victims included captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, and Mahmudullah.

Despite Rishad Hossain’s valiant effort with a 30-ball 53, Bangladesh’s batting lineup crumbled under Thushara’s relentless bowling. The team was eventually bowled out for 146 in 19.4 overs, falling short of the target.

Thushara’s career-best performance of 5-20 earned him the Player of the Match award. Sri Lanka captain Wanindu Hasaranga praised Thushara’s contribution, saying, “This is our last series before the World Cup, so we take a lot of confidence from this.”

The victory marks a significant boost for Sri Lanka as they prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The team’s bowling attack, led by Thushara, proved to be a formidable force, while Mendis’ batting prowess provided a solid foundation.
