Tennis Strings — The Complete Buyer’s Guide
Your tennis string is the actual contact point between racquet and ball — more than any other equipment variable, string type, gauge, and tension determine how your racquet feels and performs on court. The right string can add spin, control, power, or comfort; the wrong choice for your game or technique can increase arm fatigue and reduce shot quality. For Indian players playing on hard courts through a climate that ranges from 40°C summer heat to monsoon humidity, string selection and restringing frequency both matter more than most equipment guides written for Western markets acknowledge.
At God of Sports, we stock Solinco tennis strings — one of the most respected co-polyester string brands in the world, used by ATP and WTA players globally. Nine models across multiple gauges, covering spin, control, comfort, and durability profiles. All shipped pan-India from Mumbai.
Tennis String Types — What You Need to Know
Co-Polyester (Co-Poly) — The Standard for Competitive Indian Players
Co-polyester is the dominant string type at competitive club and professional level. It offers excellent control, good spin potential, durability on hard court abrasion, and holds tension better than traditional polyester or synthetic gut. The tradeoff: co-poly is stiffer than multifilament or natural gut, which means it can increase arm load if you’re not fully developing your own swing pace. All Solinco strings stocked at GOS are co-polyester.
String Profiles — Round vs Shaped
String cross-section affects ball bite. Round strings slide more smoothly across each other during impact and can snap back to position quickly. Shaped strings (square, hexagonal, pentagonal) have edge geometry that grips the ball more aggressively at contact, generating more spin but potentially breaking faster. The Solinco range includes both: Hyper G (shaped), Revolution (hexagonal), Barb Wire (textured), Mach 10 (round), and Outlast (round).
Gauge (Thickness) — 16, 16L, 17
- 16 gauge (1.30mm) — Most durable. Loses some spin potential vs thinner strings. Best for frequent breakers or training volume
- 16L gauge (1.25mm) — The practical middle ground. Good balance of spin, control, and durability. Most Solinco models available in 16L
- 17 gauge (1.20mm) — Most spin and feel. Breaks faster. Best for advanced players who restring regularly and prioritise performance over longevity
Indian Climate Note: Tension Loss in Heat
All strings lose tension over time — but Indian summer heat (35–45°C in Indore, Ahmedabad, Delhi in peak summer) dramatically accelerates this. Co-poly strings in particular go “dead” — losing their lively feel and spin potential — faster in high heat even without breaking. Restring more frequently during Indian summer months (March–June). Store your racquet in a climate-controlled bag or indoor space — not in a car boot.

Hyper G Round — Spin & Control, Round Profile
The Solinco Hyper G Round is the round-profile version of the iconic Hyper G — delivering the surgical control and easy spin of the Hyper G formula with a smoother, more comfortable feel. The round cross-section sits better on the string bed and provides slightly more touch on volleys and slice than the shaped Hyper G. An excellent choice for advanced players who want Hyper G-level control with a slightly more comfortable feel.
Best for: Advanced players, control-first game, baseline construction play
Feel: Firm, controlled, excellent spin, round profile
Indian conditions: Excellent durability on hard courts
Hyper G Soft — Spin & Control, Arm-Friendly
The Solinco Hyper G Soft brings the legendary Hyper G control and spin potential to a softer, more arm-friendly string bed. It delivers surgical control, easy spin, and outstanding durability while packing above-average comfort for a poly-based monofilament — making it an excellent transitional string for players moving from multifilament to co-poly, or for regular players who want Hyper G-level performance without the stiff feel of traditional polys.
Best for: Players with arm sensitivity, transitioning to co-poly, intermediate-advanced
Feel: Softer than standard poly, still excellent control and spin
Mach 10 — Speed & Response
The Solinco Mach 10 is designed for speed — engineered for players with fast swing speeds who want maximum response from their string bed. A round co-poly with excellent tension maintenance and crisp feel on ball strike.
Best for: Fast-swinging advanced players, aggressive baseliners who generate their own pace
Feel: Crisp, responsive, excellent tension maintenance
Revolution — Maximum Spin, Hexagonal Profile
The Solinco Revolution is for players who love to take massive cuts at the ball. The hexagonal profile provides sharp edges that grip and load the ball with spin on every shot — particularly effective on topspin groundstrokes, kick serves, and heavy forehand drives. The control this string provides allows big hitters to swing out freely without fear of over-hitting. Softer than most Solinco polys despite being firm and durable.
Best for: Heavy topspin players, big hitters who want spin and control
Feel: Hexagonal profile, excellent spin generation, controlled feel
Court: Particularly effective on Indian hard courts where topspin is required to control the faster bounce
Tour Bite Soft — Precision Control, Spin
The Solinco Tour Bite Soft is the gentler sibling of the legendary Tour Bite — shaped for massive ball grip and huge spin potential, but with a more generous power level and softer feel than the original. The result is a string that gives big-swinging intermediates access to Tour Bite-level spin and control without the harsh feel of the firm original. This is a control string on the softer side of the polyester spectrum.
Best for: Advanced players wanting precision spin and control, players who find Tour Bite too harsh
Feel: Shaped, tacky feel on ball, excellent spin, softer than Tour Bite Original
Tour Bite Diamond Rough — Textured Spin, Firm
The Solinco Tour Bite Diamond Rough adds a textured surface to the Tour Bite co-poly — combining the firm, predictable response of Tour Bite with additional ball bite from the rough outer coat. For strong intermediate to advanced players who rip the ball and want maximum spin with a firm, consistent feel across the string bed.
Best for: Strong intermediates and advanced players who hit with heavy topspin and want maximum spin with firm, durable construction
Feel: Firm, highly predictable, textured rough surface
Outlast — Soft Co-Poly, Great Spin, All-Court
The Solinco Outlast is a co-polyester that offers a softer string bed than traditional polys — providing great bite on the ball and excellent spin while being more comfortable than the stiffer Solinco options. Perfect for the big all-court player who wants co-poly durability and spin without excessive stiffness. Works excellently in hybrid setups (mains or crosses).
Best for: All-court baseliners, players transitioning from multifilament to co-poly, hybrid setups
Feel: Softer co-poly, excellent spin, comfortable for a poly
Barb Wire — Textured Co-Poly, Spin & Control
The Solinco Barb Wire is a monofilament co-polyester with a textured surface that combines tremendous ball bite with a crisp, soft feel at contact. Excellent spin potential with good ball pocketing — the textured surface grips the ball more than smooth polys while maintaining a comfortable, controlled response.
Best for: Players who want textured spin potential with a crisp, controlled feel
Feel: Textured, crisp, soft for a poly, excellent spin and control

Stringing Tension for Indian Conditions
Stringing tension affects feel and power transfer. Lower tension (40–50 lbs) gives more power and comfort. Higher tension (55–65 lbs) gives more control and feedback. For Indian hard courts where the bounce is already fast, most club players string in the 50–58 lb range. In Indian summer heat, consider stringing 1–2 lbs lower than your normal tension — strings tighten in heat and a lower initial tension prevents the string bed from becoming too stiff during peak summer sessions.
Frequently Asked Questions — Tennis Strings India
What is the best tennis string for spin in India?
The Solinco Revolution (hexagonal profile) or Tour Bite Soft (shaped) are the top spin-oriented Solinco strings at GOS. Both provide excellent ball bite on topspin groundstrokes.
Which Solinco string is most comfortable?
The Hyper G Soft and Outlast are the most arm-friendly Solinco options — above-average comfort for co-poly strings while maintaining good spin and control.
How long does a string job last?
Depends on how often you play and how hard you hit. A weekly player who hits with moderate pace might get 2–3 months. A player who trains 4+ times per week with heavy topspin might break co-poly strings every 3–4 weeks. The Indian heat standard: restring one more time per year than you normally would in cooler climates.
