Veer Ahlawat, a 28-year-old golfer from Gurugram, is on a mission to secure a card for the 2025 season on the DP World Tour. Currently leading the Professional Golf Tour of India’s Order of Merit, Ahlawat is also ranked 82nd in the Asian Tour Order of Merit.
To achieve his goal, Ahlawat must finish inside the top 65 on the Asian Tour and win one more event on the PGTI. He is currently playing a grueling schedule, having played three of the last four weeks and planning to play seven of the next eight.
Despite the physical and mental challenges, Ahlawat remains confident in his abilities. He has worked hard on his swing with his coach, Anitya Chand, and believes he is ready for the next few weeks.
“I think I am ready to win on the Asian Tour,” Ahlawat said. “The confidence and the game are all there. And if I can win one more on the PGTI, that would give me a lot of breathing space.”
Ahlawat’s journey has not been without its challenges. He faced swing issues earlier in the year but has since overcome them. He also got married earlier this year, which has been a source of support for him.
“It’s been really tough on my wife,” Ahlawat said. “But then I started playing well after the marriage! So, she must have got something to do with this.”
Ahlawat is aware of the challenges he will face if he secures a DP World Tour card. However, he believes his experience playing on European and South African courses will give him an edge.
“I feel I have more of a complete game to play on whichever Tour I plan to play on,” Ahlawat said. “I am much more exposed to international golf. So, I know it will be a tough transition if I do get the card, but I know if I play well and to my potential, I can have very good weeks on any Tour.”
Ahlawat will play his first round in the International Series Bangkok on Thursday at 11am IST.
