Anjum Moudgil, a former world No. 1 and Arjuna award winner, faced disappointment at the Paris Olympics, failing to qualify for the final in the women’s 50m rifle 3P event. Despite a strong start, six 9s in the prone position proved costly, leaving her with a score of 584, five points short of the cut-off.
Moudgil’s struggles in Paris echoed her experience in Tokyo, where she missed out on the finals in both the 10m air rifle mixed team and women’s 50m rifle 3P events. The mental toll of those setbacks led her to seek professional help from a sport psychologist.
However, Moudgil approached the Paris Games with a different mindset. While disappointed at missing the final, she was able to manage her emotions better. “I was able to push myself back in the match,” she said. “I was very happy with my patience and calmness.”
After Tokyo, Moudgil recognized the importance of taking breaks and avoiding excessive pressure. She has since engaged in physical training, yoga, ayurvedic therapy, and other activities to maintain her well-being.
Moudgil plans to return to competition at the national championships in November-December. She remains committed to both 10m air rifle and 50m 3P events, aiming to regain her previous form.
Her ultimate goal is to medal at the 2026 Asian Games and qualify for her third Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028. “I have medals in all other competitions,” she said. “Only Olympics and Asian Games remain. I want to tick those boxes too.”
