Liverpool reclaimed the Premier League summit after Manchester City and Arsenal suffered defeats on Saturday. Mohamed Salah’s second-half strike sealed a 2-1 comeback victory for Liverpool over Brighton at Anfield.
Bournemouth stunned City with a 2-1 home triumph, handing Pep Guardiola’s injury-hit team their first league loss of the season. Arsenal’s title hopes took a blow with a 1-0 defeat at Newcastle in the early kickoff.
Liverpool’s first-half performance was underwhelming, with Brighton dominating possession and creating numerous chances. However, the Reds turned the tide in the second half. Cody Gakpo’s attempted cross sailed into the net for the equalizer in the 69th minute, and Salah’s exquisite finish three minutes later secured the win.
Salah’s goal, assisted by Trent Alexander-Arnold, showcased his brilliance. He cut inside a defender and curled an unstoppable shot into the net with his left foot. The victory lifted Liverpool two points clear of City at the top of the table.
Arsenal’s title challenge faltered with their defeat at Newcastle. They now trail Liverpool by seven points and have dropped to fourth place behind Nottingham Forest, who beat West Ham 3-0. The Gunners could slip further down the standings if Aston Villa and Chelsea win on Sunday.
Southampton celebrated their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Everton, thanks to Adam Armstrong’s late goal. However, fellow promoted side Ipswich remains winless after conceding an injury-time equalizer in a 1-1 draw against Leicester.
