Manchester United have appointed Ruben Amorim as their new head coach, replacing Erik ten Hag. The Portuguese manager has signed a contract until 2027, with an option for an additional year.
Amorim, 38, has enjoyed a successful managerial career at Sporting CP, where he won two Primeira Liga titles, the Taca de Liga twice, and the Supertaca Candido de Oliveira. He also led the club to the Champions League round of 16 in the 2022-23 season.
As a player, Amorim was a midfielder who spent most of his career with Belenenses and Benfica. He won ten major titles with Benfica, including three league titles and one Taca de Portugal. He also represented Portugal in two FIFA World Cups.
Amorim’s appointment at United is seen as a coup for the club. He is considered one of the most exciting young coaches in Europe and is known for his attacking style of play.
United will be hoping that Amorim can bring success back to Old Trafford. The club has not won a major trophy since 2017 and has struggled to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool in recent years.
Amorim will officially join United on November 11th. Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue to take charge of the team until then.
