Nitish Rana announced as interim captain of KKR in place of Shreyas Iyer

Nitish Rana announced as interim captain of KKR in place of Shreyas Iyer

Nitish Rana has been handed the reigns of two-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. The left-hander replaces Shreyas Iyer, who is recovering from a back injury.

Announcing the news of interim captain, the franchisee stated, “While we are hopeful that Shreyas will recover and participate at some stage in the IPL 2023 edition, we feel fortunate that Nitish, with the captaincy experience having led his state side in white ball cricket and the IPL experience he has had with KKR since 2018, will do a great job.”

The franchisee further said, “We are also confident that under Head Coach Chandrakant Pandit and the support staff, he will get all the support needed off the field, and the highly experienced leaders in the squad will provide all support that Nitish may need on the field. We wish him the best in his new role and Shreyas a full and speedy recovery.”

Nitish Rana has been with the franchise since 2018 and has scored upwards of 300 runs in each of the five seasons. The 29-year-old has captaincy experience leading Delhi teams in the Indian domestic circuit. He has also represented India in two T20Is and an ODI, with all three of his international experiences coming on the tour of Sri Lanka in July 2021.

With Nitish Rana taking the captaincy duties, the coaching duties are being handled by Mumbai stalwart Chandrakant Pandit. Pandit replaces Brendon McCullum as the head coach, while Bharat Arun is appointed as the bowling coach.

Harry Brook

The latest sensation in world cricket, Harry Brook, has set the stage on fire with his aggressive style of play in batting. In his brief Test career, the right-handed batter has made 809 runs in just ten innings at an average of 80.9.

Brook’s record in T20s is exceptional too. He has 2,432 runs in the format and forced his way into the eventual world champions England’s T20 World Cup squad after a series in Pakistan in which he scored 231 runs at an average of 79.33 and a strike rate of 163.01.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, who were looking to strengthen their batting, bought Harry Brook for ₹ 13.25 crore. The England star will be playing for the first time in India and is expected to set to explode in the IPL.

Arshad Khan

Shocked? Don’t be. Mohammad Arshad Khan is a star for the future. The young boy, hailing from Madhya Pradesh, has been specially recommended by Mumbai Indians player Piyush Chawla.

Although the left-arm pacer doesn’t have much experience, whatever little we have seen him bowl has left us stunned. The Madhya Pradesh star can swing the white ball both ways, quite reminiscent to the all-time great Wasim Akram’s bowling style.

Besides his excellent bowling, Arshad can also get the team some quick runs. His hitting lower down the order will be quite useful for the Mumbai outfit.

Mumbai Indians have included Mohammad Arshad Khan in their team for a base price of ₹ 20 lakhs.

Cameron Green

Another Mumbai Indians player has made it to the list. Although Cameron Green has shown the world what he is capable of doing on the cricket field, his IPL debut will be looked forward to by many cricket pundits.

After Pollard announced his retirement from IPL, Mumbai Indians were looking for someone who could fill his shoes. And thankfully, they got Green. Green is a right-handed batter who can open the innings, can come down at number 4, or come at number 6 and finish the innings. A versatile player.

Like Pollard, Green is handy with the ball. The right-arm pacer’s bowling prowess was on full display during the T20 Internationa against Pakistan, where he got 2 wickets for 16 runs in just 3 overs at an economy of 5.33.

The all-rounder has scored 139 runs in 8 T20Is, with 61 as his highest score. He was purchased by Mumbai Indians for ₹17.5 crores during the IPL 2023 mini-auction. Green is expected to land stability to the Mumbai Indians team and help them play to their potential in IPL 2023.

Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal. This name has been making the rounds of the Indian cricketing circle for a while. The youngest double centurion in List A cricket and Player of the Tournament in the 2020 U-19 World Cup, Jaiswal is expected to continue his domestic cricket form into IPL.

During the recently concluded Irani Trophy, Jaiswal, representing the Rest of India, smashed a stunning double century in the first innings and a gritty hundred in the second innings to win the Irani Cup for his team.

While this is not the first time the Mumbai batter has produced such a magnificent performance. During the semi-final match against Uttar Pradesh in Ranji Trophy 2021-22, the left-handed batsman slammed centuries in both innings to help his team win the match.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who plies his trade for Rajasthan Royals, has appeared for 10 IPL matches and scored 258 runs in 10 Innings. The left-hander’s highest score in IPL is 68.

Sarfaraz Khan

Mumbai-born Sarfaraz Khan is one of the hottest properties in the domestic circuit. Sarfaraz has an envious record in the Ranji Trophy. He averages a whopping 80.47 in 36 matches, second only to the legendary Sir Don Bradman, who averaged 95.14 in 234 games.

During the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy season, Sarfaraz amassed 556 runs in just 9 innings at an average of a whopping 92.66. He notched up three big hundreds and one half-century during the season.

The 25-year-old was the leading run-scorer during the last Ranji Trophy season, amassing 982 runs at an average of 122.75 in Mumbai’s run to the final. He struck four hundreds and two half-centuries in that season and had a top score of 275 against Saurashtra.

In IPL 2023, the right-handed batter will be playing from Delhi Capitals. He will be responsible for finishing the Delhi innings with a flourish.

Aiden Markram to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2023

Aiden Markram to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2023

Aiden Markram’s stocks are continuously rising. After leading the Sunrisers Eastern Cape to a title-winning campaign in 2023 SA20, the South African has been appointed to lead the Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2023.

An SRH official revealed that the franchise management, in consultation with head coach Brian Lara, decided to make Aiden Markram the skipper after his astounding performance in the recent SA20, in which the South African led the Sunrisers Eastern Cape side to the title.

“I am open to taking up the SRH leadership if it comes my way, but I will not mind if it does not. I am prepared, but it is up to the management,” Markram told Cricbuzz recently in Johannesburg.

Markram has good leadership skills. It was under him that the South African team won their only World Cup trophy beating Pakistan in the final of the under-19 World Cup.

Additionally, Delhi Capitals have announced David Warner as the skipper in place of Rishabh Pant. “David will be our captain, and Axar Patel will be his deputy,” said a member of the ownership group of Delhi Capitals.

IPL Auction 2023: Top 7 Players for whom Big Bids are expected

IPL Auction 2023: Top 7 Players for whom Big Bids are expected

After the conclusion of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the sports industry is buzzing with the right noises made by the Indian Premier League. The IPL Auction 2023 will be conducted on Friday, December 23, at Grand Hyatt Hotel, Kochi. The mini-auction will present an opportunity for all franchisees to bolster their squad.

In every auction, there are few players who make their case very strong and franchisees will try and win every opportunity to get that player for their team. In this article, we will have a look at the 7 players who will be in very high demand at the IPL Auction 2023.

Jason Holder: The former West Indian skipper will be in high demand at the IPL Auction 2023. The all-rounder has played for Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants.

The Caribbean player has played 38 games and scored 247 runs at a strike rate of 123.50. Holder is very effective with his bowling. He has taken 49 wickets at an average of 24.02. Franchisees like Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings will try to secure the all-rounder’s signature.

Harry Brook: The latest batting sensation from England, Harry Brook, will be among the most sought-after players by all the franchisees. Harry Brook showed everyone what he could do in the recently concluded Test series against Pakistan. The 23-year-old scored 468 runs in the series with three centuries and one half-century to his name. And the most shocking thing is he scored those runs at an astounding strike rate of 93.41.

Overall, Brook has been one of the best strikers of the ball, scoring 372 runs in 20 matches at a strike rate of 137.77. Franchisees like Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders will try their best to bring Brook into their squad.

Manish Pandey: “An Indian batsman”. Hearing this will light up the eyes of all the franchisee owners. A well-known name in the domestic circuit, Manish Pandey hasn’t had great IPL seasons. For IPL 2022, he was a part of the Lucknow Super Giants. He scored 88 runs in 6 matches and was dropped from the squad due to lack of form.

However, he has improved a lot since then. At the 2022 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he scored 247 runs in 8 matches at an average of 61.75. A lot of the teams have a very weak batting order. Franchisees like Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans will be looking to secure his services.

Dasun Shanaka: Dasun Shanaka is one player who has been in terrific form over the last few months. While he left many impressed with his performance against India earlier this year, recently, he helped Sri Lanka chase 59 in the last three overs against Australia. His power-hitting is rising, and Shanaka can offer a few overs with the ball. Hence, he is a value cricketer and might be in demand for IPL Auction 2023.

In a total of 82 T20Is, he has scored over 1200 runs at a strike rate of 117.57. Also, he has taken 21 wickets at an average of 21. His finishing skills have been excellent in the recent past, with him giving everyone a show at the 2022 Asia Cup. Franchisees like Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad will try to sign the all-rounder.

Cameron Green: He can bat. He can bowl. He can field. The man does it all. Australia’s premier all-rounder Cameron Green will be one of the hottest players in the IPL Auction 2023. After starting his international career with the longest game format in 2020, the 23-year-old thrived in the white-ball circuit of late. In ODIs, he has amassed 270 runs in 12 games at a strike rate of 92.15 and bagged 11 wickets at an economy of 4.98.

In the shortest format, Green has smashed 139 runs in eight games at an amazing strike rate of 173.75 and picked five wickets for Australia in the shortest format. The all-rounder is very flexible. He can bat anywhere, from opener to being a finisher. Green is a great asset to have for any franchisee, and all the teams will surely get into a bidding war to buy the player.

Sam Curran: The “Man of the Tournament” of the 2022 T20 World Cup, Sam Curran has registered himself for the IPl Auction 2023. Sam Curran has previously played for Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings. The English all-rounder has scored 337 runs in 32 matches and taken 32 wickets in 32 matches.

The left-arm pacer has had a surge in his form. During the 2022 T20 World Cup, he bagged 13 wickets in 6 games, with a fifer coming in their inaugural match against Afghanistan.

Ben Stokes: Ben Stokes is one of the hottest properties in the international arena. Everyone wants a piece of him. Since the time he became England’s Test skipper, the team has won 9 out of the 10 completed Test matches. With his aggressive approach and go-for-the-win attitude, many teams would like to bring him to their squad.

Also, Stokes’ record in the IPL is not that bad. In 2017, Stokes started his IPL journey with Rising Pune Super Giants. The left-handed batter scored 316 runs in 12 matches. In addition to the runs, he also took 12 wickets at an average of 26.33. He has played 43 games, scored 920 runs, and took 28 matches.

In the T20I format, he has scored 585 runs and took 26 wickets in 43 matches. Ben Stokes is an overall package. The franchisees will definitely have a bidding war for the Englishman.

IPL Auction 2023: Time and TV telecast

The IPL Auction 2023 telecast is set to begin at 2.30 pm IST. The auction will be telecast on the Star Sports Network on television, while Viacom18 – which has digital rights for IPL 2023 – will broadcast on their digital channels. JioCinema, which recently streamed the FIFA World Cup 2022 in India, is set to telecast the auction on mobile devices.

IPL 2023: England duo Curran & Stokes register with 2 Cr base price; No Indian features in the list

The Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed that the mini-auction for the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League would happen on 23rd December in Kochi. A total of 991 players, including 714 Indians and 277 overseas players, have registered themselves for the mini-auction, which will be held in the lead-up to a second successive 10-team season.

2022 T20 World Cup’s Man of the Tournament Sam Curran leads the list of players with a base price of Rs. 2 crores. Following him are his English teammates Ben Stokes, Adil Rashid, Chris Jordan, Tymal Mills, Jamie Overton, Craig Overton, Phil Salt and Tom Banton.

Other marquee players on the list include Australia’s sensation Cameron Green, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Travis Head and Chris Lynn. New Zealand’s star players like Kane Williamson, Adam Milne and Jimmy Neesham are also listed on the list. Additionally, the list includes South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw and Rassie van der Dussen, Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews and West Indies’ former T20 skipper Nicholas Pooran and Jason Holder.

However, no Indian has listed their base price as Rs. 2 crores. Amongst the Indian players registered, there are many players with a base price of Rs. 1 crore, including Mayank Agarwal, Manish Pandey and Kedar Jadhav.

A statement from BCCI said, “If every franchise were to have a maximum of 25 players in their squad, 87 players are available to be bought in the auction (of which up to 30 players can be overseas players).”

As per a Cricbuzz report, 19 capped Indian players, 166 capped International players, 20 players from Associate nations, 91 uncapped Indians who were a part of the previous editions, 3 uncapped Internationals who were a part of the previous editions, 604 uncapped Indians and 88 uncapped International players form the long list of players who will go under the hammer.

Players with base price Rs. 1.5 crores: Sean Abbott, Riley Meredith, Jhye Richardson, Adam Zampa, Shakib Al Hasan, Harry Brook, Will Jacks, Dawid Malan, Jason Roy, Sherfane Rutherford

Players with base price Rs. 1 crore: Mayank Agarwal, Kedar Jadhav, Manish Pandey, Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Moises Henriques, Andrew Tye, Joe Root, Luke Wood, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Martin Guptill, Kyle Jamieson, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Heinrich Klaasen, Tabraiz Shamsi, Kusal Perera, Roston Chase, Rakheem Cornwall, Shai Hope, Akeal Hossein, David Wiese

IPL 2023: The list of expected players to be released from every franchisee

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is getting tougher with each year passing by. With the introduction of two new teams: the Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, winning the prestigious trophy has become more strenuous. A side must have the perfect blend of batters, bowlers, and all-rounders to win the best T20 league in the world.

There is no denying the fact that the auction is the cornerstone of winning the illustrious IPL trophy. The decision-makers of every franchise need to be thorough with their teams’ necessities before entering the bidding battle in the auction. Having said that, as important as it is for a team to sign a perfect player, at the same time, it is very crucial for them to get rid of some of them.

Releasing a player before an auction is also a very important step before entering a new season. An out-of-form player with a heavy price tag is enough to drag a whole team back single-handedly. All ten teams will look for some adjustments in their squad before the upcoming season.

The IPL 2023 auction is set to be held in December. The official date is yet to be announced by the BCCI. However, all the teams are required to submit the list of their retained and released players by November 15.

Let’s have a look at the list of expected players to be released from every franchisee in IPL 2023:

Mumbai Indians

“Humiliating” will be an understatement to describe Mumbai Indians’ performance in the IPL 2022. The five-time IPL winners won just four games out of the 14 played in the recently conducted season. What makes it worse is that most of the games were played in Wankhede Stadium, the team’s home ground itself. The MI management has some serious thinking to do and needs to get back on track before it gets too late.

Players Mumbai Indians can release before the 2023 auction:

1) Jaydev Unadkat

2) Fabian Allen

3) Tymal Mills

Chennai Super Kings

If Mumbai Indians had a bad season, Chennai Super Kings had a disappointing one as well. CSK looked completely lost in IPL 2022. The MS Dhoni/ Ravindra Jadeja-led side finished 9th a season after winning the IPL. The out-of-favours CSK side also won just four games in IPL 2022.

The Men in Yellow are expected to bounce back in the upcoming season as it can be the last time MS Dhoni’s last season as a player. CSK will need a perfect team to make MSD’s last dance a special one.

Players Chennai Super Kings can release before the 2023 auction:

1) Chris Jordan

2) Adam Milne

3) Robin Uthappa

Sunrisers Hyderabad

SRH kick-started their IPL 2022 with back-to-back losses. However, the team managed to gain momentum by winning five games straight. The Orange Army then looked to lose the plot by going on a 5-game losing streak and eventually finished 8th in the IPL 2022 points table.

Umran Malik’s outrageous bowling carried the team for most of the season. Other than that, it was just an average performance from the rest of the squad, including their skipper Kane Williamson. Fans are still not over the fact that SRH failed to retain David Warner and Rashid Khan in the same window.

Players Sunrisers Hyderabad can release before the 2023 auction:

1) Sean Abbott

2) Fazalhaq Farooqi

3) Abdul Samad

4) Romario Shepherd

Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders experienced a bright start to their IPL 2022 campaign but failed to thrive on it. KKR have a good squad with a promising young skipper in the form of Shreyas Iyer. And with Chandrakant Pandit’s arrival at the coaching helm, we can expect plenty of changes in the KKR’s squad this season. KKR fans were seemingly unhappy with their team’s strategy in the 2022 mega-auction. However, we might see a positive turnout this time.

Players Kolkata Knight Riders can release before the 2023 auction:

1) Ajinkya Rahane

2) Aaron Finch

3) Shivam Mavi

Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings let go of KL Rahul and appointed Mayank Agarwal as their new captain before the IPL 2022 season. However, the alternations didn’t make much difference for PBKS as it proved to be yet another disheartening season for them. PBKS finished 6th for the 3rd consecutive time under the management of head coach Anil Kumble.

PBKS has a lot of promising players in their squad, with some big names including Liam Livingstone, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Jonny Bairstow, Arshdeep Singh, and Kagiso Rabada. To think of a team consisting of so many big names ending up with just 7 wins in a season is rather dissatisfying.

Punjab Kings can easily fight for the title in IPL 2023. PBKS will look to offload some deadwood from their squad before the mini-auction takes place. PBKS’ new head coach Trevor Bayliss is expected to bring in some major changes in their team ahead of the IPL 2023 season. Shikhar Dhawan has already been named their new skipper to start with.

Players Punjab Kings can release before the 2023 auction:

1) Mayank Agarwal

2) Sandeep Sharma

3) Benny Howell

4) Odean Smith

5) Vaibhav Arora

Delhi Capitals

Almost every year, Delhi Capitals start as one of the front-runners to win the IPL but ironically fails to turn their long-lasting dream into a reality. Delhi Capital’s star-studded squad, which included the likes of Rishabh Pant, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and Prithvi Shaw, was expected to crush most of their challengers.

However, DC finished 5th in the IPL 2022, which perfectly sums up the team’s journey in the Indian T20 tournament. The Rishabh Pant-led team has got all the ingredients to win the IPL. With a little switch, the Delhi Capitals can fix their problems ahead of the 2023 IPL.

Players Delhi Capitals can release before the 2023 auction:

1) Shardul Thakur

2) Mandeep Singh

3) Tim Seifert

4) Mustafizur Rahman

5) Ripal Patel

Royal Challengers Bangalore

To think that the great Virat Kohli has never won an IPL will always be an astonishing fact. A team that consisted the likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Chris Gayle, all at the same time and still never bagged an IPL trophy is a disturbing fact. In an ideal world, Royal Challengers Bangalore should have clinched at least 1 IPL title. However, IPL can not be won by facts but by performances that RCB somewhere lacks in every season.

RCB managed to amass a great squad in the 2022 mega auction but failed to change their fortunes. We are expecting some minor changes in the RCB’s squad ahead of the 2023 IPL mini-auction.

Players Royal Challengers Bangalore can release before the 2023 auction:

1) Sherfane Rutherford

2) Jason Behrendorff

3) Karn Sharma

4) David Willey

Lucknow Super Giants

The newly-formed side under the leadership of KL Rahul did pretty well in their maiden season. LSG finished 3rd as they gathered a total of 9 wins in IPL 2022. The Lucknow-based franchise will be motivated by its set of great stints in its very first season and will only look to thrive from it.

Players Lucknow Super Giants can release before the 2023 auction:

1) Manish Pandey

2) Andrew Tye

3) Evin Lewis

4) Ankit Rajpoot

Rajasthan Royals

Many would argue that Rajasthan Royals were indeed the best side of IPL 2022. RR looked like the most balanced team out of the 10 in the previous season. The Rajasthan-based team dominated most of their rivals, with Jos Buttler leading the batting from the front.

Sanju Samson and his “pink army” reached the IPL 2022 finals but couldn’t taste the glory. However, RR will surely be one of the favourites to win the next IPL. Rajasthan Royals won’t be eager to implement many changes in their almost perfect squad.

Players Rajasthan Royals can release before the 2023 auction:

1) Nathan Coulter-Nile

2) Karun Nair

3) Obed McCoy

4) Rassie van der Dussen

Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans created history by winning the IPL in their very first season. The Hardik Pandya-led team displayed great courage against some of the best players in the world. Gujarat Titans had a different match-winner in each victory of theirs. GT’s immense individual quality was their X-factor in IPL 2022. Gujarat Titans will want to maintain a similar approach for the seasons to follow as well. We are not expecting any big changes in Gujarat’s squad for the upcoming season.

Players Gujarat Titans can release before the 2023 auction:

1) Vijay Shankar

2) Gurkeerat Singh Mann

3) Noor Ahmad

4) Varun Aaron

Mayank Agarwal axed from Punjab Kings’ captaincy; Shikhar Dhawan to replace

Things are looking bleak for Karnataka-based Mayank Agarwal. The Indian player was removed from captaincy in the Indian Premier League team Punjab Kings. Shikhar Dhawan replaces him in that role. This move was approved by their franchise board and backed Trevor Bayliss, their new coach, on Wednesday.

Agarwal has not been among the runs. In IPL 2022, his return were terrible. He scored just 196 runs in 13 matches at an average of 16.33. The team didn’t do very well either. Kings ended the season in sixth place.

Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan has a lot of experience in the captaincy role. He has led Sunrisers Hyderabad and the national squad quite often. Dhawan, who has been leading the national side in the absence of star players like Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, has been doing a fabulous job. In the IPL too, he has always been scoring tons of runs every season. He is the second-most highest runs scorer in the list of Most runs scored in IPL.

Mayank was one of the two retentions of the franchise last year, and it was for Rs. 14 crores. The India opener scored 196 runs in 13 innings at an average of 16.33. In contrast, Bairstow had scored 253 runs in 11 games at an average of 23. Dhawan was the team’s highest scorer. He scored 460 runs in 14 matches at an average of 32.85.

It now remains to be seen whether Punjab Kings will retain or release Mayank Agarwal. All the IPL teams have until November 15 to submit a list of the players they want to keep ahead of the next IPL.
