Team World Unveils Trio for Laver Cup Three-Peat Bid

Team World, led by the legendary John McEnroe, is gearing up for a three-peat at the Laver Cup, which will be McEnroe’s final year as captain. The team has announced three of its players: Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz, and Tommy Paul.

De Minaur, the Australian No. 1, is in the form of his life, having recently cracked the Top 10 and won the Acapulco title. He is eager to contribute to Team World’s success, saying, “We will have a fight on our hands, but I love the team environment and we will give it everything we’ve got.”

Fritz, the world No. 13, is making his fourth Laver Cup appearance and has been a key member of both previous victorious teams. Paul, ranked 16th, is also making his second appearance, having joined the team in Vancouver last year.

“The atmosphere, camaraderie, and excitement of the Laver Cup is unlike any other tournament,” said Paul. “I look forward to taking part in Berlin and hopefully contributing to another team victory.”

Team Europe, led by Bjorn Borg, has also announced three of its players: Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, and Alexander Zverev. The remaining players for both teams will be announced based on their rankings on June 10.

The Laver Cup will take place at the Uber Arena in Berlin from September 20-22. Multi-session ticket packages go on sale on April 17, with single session tickets available from May 17.

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – Holger Rune has become a fashion icon on the tennis court, sporting short shorts reminiscent of the 1980s. The 20-year-old Dane believes his five-inch inseam Nike shorts not only look good but also give him an edge on the court.

“I think five inches is pretty good,” Rune said at the BNP Paribas Open. “I don’t know how long these are, but they’re around five.”

Rune’s shorts have drawn comparisons to those worn by tennis legend John McEnroe. The Dane joked that pulling them higher helped him shake off a missed overhead and secure a straight-sets victory over Lorenzo Musetti.

“Did you see 5-5 in the tiebreaker? That’s why he missed the forehand. It’s a small mind trick,” Rune said.

Rune’s belief in the efficiency of his shorts extends beyond their appearance. “I’m not being selfish or anything. I just believe in my legs, not just the look, but on the court, I believe they’re efficient,” he said.

Rune’s next challenge will be against 2022 champion Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals. The Dane will need to put his legs to the test against the American, who is known for his powerful serve and aggressive baseline play.

Rune’s short shorts have become a talking point in the tennis world, but the Dane remains focused on his performance. “I’m just trying to play my best tennis and win matches,” he said. “The shorts are just a part of that.”

Johnny Mac Tennis Project Empowers NYC Youth Through Tennis

The Johnny Mac Tennis Project: Empowering New York City Youth Through Tennis

Founded in 2010 by tennis legend John McEnroe, the Johnny Mac Tennis Project (JMTP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to breaking down barriers and providing access to tennis for underprivileged youth in New York City.

Recognizing the transformative power of tennis, JMTP aims to create a level playing field for children from all backgrounds. Through its scholarship program, the organization supports young athletes who demonstrate financial need and a passion for the sport.

“We want every kid in New York to have the opportunity to play tennis,” said Ryann Cutillo, executive director of JMTP. “Tennis can teach valuable life lessons, such as discipline, perseverance, and teamwork.”

In addition to its scholarship program, JMTP also supports school tennis programs and community initiatives. The organization’s Young Professionals Council (YPC), established in 2020, plays a vital role in expanding JMTP’s reach and raising awareness about its mission.

The YPC is comprised of eight members who volunteer their time as mentors for JMTP scholarship students. Sabrina Xiong, the president of YPC, is a former scholarship recipient who went on to play tennis at Harvard University.

“We’re always looking for more people to join, take leadership positions, or just be a part of the organization,” said Xiong. “We also have a mentorship program that we’re really proud of, where we connect students with mentors who can provide guidance and support.”

JMTP’s impact on the lives of young people is undeniable. Patrick McEnroe, John’s brother and a former professional tennis player, has witnessed firsthand the transformative power of the organization.

“A lot of the kids who come here to play tennis have never even seen a facility like this,” said McEnroe. “It’s definitely making a huge impact on their lives.”

With its unwavering commitment to providing access to tennis and empowering youth, the Johnny Mac Tennis Project continues to make a significant contribution to the New York City community.
